The source code for SimCity has released as Open Source under the GPL version 3 license. For legal reasons the the open source version has been renamed to Micropolis.
Don Hopkins has been the person responsible for updating and porting SimCity to Micropolis. Take a look on donhopkins.com for history and change information.
